Best Spots in Federal Hill to Watch the Ravens Play

NY Daily News

Break out the purple and gold jerseys, it’s football season.

If there’s one thing Baltimore knows, it’s how to celebrate on game day. Step one: gather friends. Step two: find a place to watch. Step three: order a drink and enjoy. That’s it, everything you need to have a good time during gametime. And to make things even easier, we’re taking care of step two.

Here’s our roundup of the best places in Federal Hill to watch the Ravens play:

Mother’s Federal Hill Grille, 1113 S Charles St

Two words: Purple Patio. Just a short walk from the stadium, Mother’s Purple Patio is known as the place to go before, during, and after every Ravens game. With two large bars, 20 TVs, a DJ, and a Ravens-themed outdoor space, it’s easy to see how the bar gained this reputation. For $30 you can enjoy one food item and all-you-can-drink bloodies, crushes, and beers for four hours before any Ravens game.

Stadium Square, Corner of Leadenhall St. & W Ostend

There’s no better way to celebrate a Ravens home game than at the one and only #PurpleTailgate. Join BMORE Around Town, Bud Light, and CBS Radio as they host their pregame party on the brand new Stadium Square parking lot. Best part? The lot’s only a four-minute walk from Ravens Stadium. Tickets range from $25-$245 depending on which perks you’d like included.

Delia Foley’s, 1439 South Charles Street

We could go on and on about why Delia Foley’s is a great place to watch the Ravens play, but there’s only one selling point that truly matters… the wings. The Irish pub boasts 35 different wing flavors and $0.99 wings all day, everyday. If that’s not enough to convince you, we’re not sure what will.

CROSSBAR, 18 E Cross St

Beer lovers, this one’s for you. Crossbar is Federal Hill’s first German Biergarten sporting traditional beer and food. That means steins, shnitzel, soft pretzels, and an all-around good time. The bar will be offering game day specials like bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers, brat bites, German fried pickles, and more. Be sure to stop by after every 1pm Ravens home game for a postgame show with 98 Rock.

Abbey Burger Bistro, 1041 Marshall St

Looking for a tasty burger to enjoy during the game? The Abbey is your spot. This bar is stacked with 12 screens across two floors, a wide selection of local, domestic, and imported brews, and a creative menu of burgers—including a build-your-own option (score).

Laugh it Up: Best Comedy Spots in Baltimore

Summer may have come to an end, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to. We’re using the change of seasons as an opportunity to change up our extracurricular activities.

Baltimore’s thriving nightlife is no joke, but instead of hitting the bar scene again, why not do something different? Since fun and laughter tend to go hand-in-hand, we’ve rounded up the best spots in Baltimore to catch some comedy this September.

For Stand-Up:

Baltimore Comedy Factory
If you’re looking for some quality stand-up comedy, this is your spot. The Baltimore Comedy Factory has been known to attract nationally-known comedians, and this month’s lineup does not disappoint. September comedians include: Aries Spears, Arnez J, K Dubb, BruceBruce, Jordan Rock, Kym Whitley & David Arnold, and Michael Blackson.

For Improv:

Baltimore Improv Group
For those of you who are more into unscripted laughs, The Baltimore Improv Group receives consistently great reviews. The group performs most nights of the week, and tickets come at the low price of $5. If you want to get involved, workshops and classes are offered for any age group and skill level.

For Something New:

Illusions Bar and Theatre
Looking for something different? Illusions Bar and Theatre is just around the corner on Charles Street and specializes in comedy magic. With shows every Friday and Saturday, you can spend your weekend being both amused and amazed.

For Anyone:

The Sidebar
If you’re eager to give comedy a try, or just want to catch some local talent, head downtown to The Sidebar. This local gem holds an open mic night Monday at 8pm for comedians of all experience levels. You can either hop on stage and test out your comedy skills, or sit back and enjoy someone else’s.

Get Crackin’ At The Baltimore Seafood Festival

If there’s one thing Baltimore knows, it’s seafood. Which is why the 4th Annual Baltimore Seafood Festival is one event you won’t want to miss. This year’s festival will be taking place on September 16th at Canton Waterfront Park and will feature live music, cooking demos, games, drinks, and of course, some top-notch seafood.

While you’re walking the waterfront, make sure you get a taste of everything the Baltimore Seafood Festival has to offer. Local restaurants will be on-site and serving up steamed crabs, lobster rolls, shrimp skewers, sliders, crab tots, ahi tuna, oysters, tacos, crab mac n cheese, ceviche, and so much more. That’s enough food to keep you well-fed and ready to celebrate all day long, which is good news, since the festivities will be happening from 12-7pm.

If you need more than good food to have a good time, maybe the live music lineup will be a bit more convincing. The Players Band, Kelly Bell Band, Strykers’ Posse, and Sons of Pirates are all set to take the stage during the Festival. Plus, getting there is a breeze. Both street and garage parking will be available at the event, along with over 100 bike racks. If you plan on using public transit, we suggest taking the Baltimore Water Taxi to Stop #16.

Hoping to snag a ticket to this event? You should act fast. While it’s too late for an Early Bird discount, you can still score a deal with advanced admission. Tickets range from $15 to $100, depending on which perks you’d like to take advantage of.

Now that you’re completely sold, it’s time to make moves. Grab your buddies and go enjoy the warm weather while it’s still around. After all, what could be better than fresh seafood, live music, and cold drinks on the waterfront? We can’t wait to see you there.

Plan Your Perfect Ravens Watch Party

Reader’s Digest

It’s that time of year again! August preseason is almost over and it’s time to start planning for that first Sunday of the season (and the many games to follow).

M&T Stadium is just a 15 minute walk from 1111 Light Street, but not every game is at home. For the nights you just can’t make it to the stadium, bring the party to your place! The luxury apartments and outdoor amenities at 1111 Light Street are perfect for hosting. Just follow these three simple steps to make your watch party the highlight of the season:

Step One: Check out the official NFL schedule — the Ravens’ first official game is Sunday, September 10th at Cincinnati, so get those invites out before someone else tries to steal your spot!
Step Two: Plan your menu. If you need some inspiration, take a look at these Ravens themed recipes courtesy of Pinterest. Find at least one killer dish to lure the crowd, then ask your pals to chip in a little something of their own, like chips. (See what we did there?)
Step Three: Get pumped and get purple. Pick your gameday Ravens attire and encourage attendees to do the same. Not festive enough? Check out these crafts for some quick DIY decorations or activities for commercial breaks.

Your party can be as casual or curated as you like it. At the end of the day, it’s about watching your favorite team with your favorite people. And if you’re not in the hosting mood, no worries. Fed Hill is chock full of fun spots to watch the game.

Staycation: Fed Hill Style

thecutaways.com

Summer is the time to kick back and relax, so maybe it’s no surprise that August 15th is National Relaxation Day. While this may be a little-known holiday, we think it’s one that should be more widely (and frequently) observed. After all, who says you should limit your relaxation to just one day?

Unfortunately, you can’t always book a beach vacation when you’re feeling stressed. Fortunately, you always have time for a little staycation.

The staycation is a classic pseudo-getaway that can involve a series of relaxing activities within the area of your own city limits. Here are our suggestions for celebrating your new favorite holiday staycation-style, so that you can treat yo’self to the relaxation you deserve whenever you need it:

Spa DayNothing says relaxation like a spa day. Massages and facials and saunas? Oh my! We’re feeling more relaxed just thinking about these lovely Fed Hill spas.

Yoga – This ancient eastern discipline is the perfect way to restore balance in your mind and body while remaining thoughtful and active. No matter where you are in your practice, there are yoga classes in Fed Hill for all levels and preferences.

Retail Therapy – Sometimes a little wardrobe revamp can do wonders. However, spending too much money can be stressful, so we’re pointing you in the direction of some of the area’s best thrift shops for a relaxing, retro, retail therapy session.

Netflix & Chill – Chances are, this is already your go-to, post-work stress relief. Even so, kicking back with your favorite binge-worthy sitcoms and satires is a legit form of relaxation that we encourage you to celebrate as luxuriously as possible. So don your best sweatpants, stock up on your fave munchies, and find what’s coming to Netflix this August 2017.

Still can’t plan your dream staycation? Find more inspiration here.
